[9Box Music Collection Log] Mr. Chan from Taikoo Shing reluctantly parts with his cherished hi-fi records: Seeking the
In our line of business at "9Box Music," we deal with thousands of vinyl records every day and encounter all kinds of sellers. Nowadays, when people approach us,their opening line is usually the same. However, our protagonist this time,Mr. Chan from Taikoo Shing, was completely different. He wasn't moving house, nor was he in a hurry to go abroad. His decision to sell this collection was purely a "decluttering" exercise by a seasoned audiophile.
Last Wednesday afternoon, our team arrived at Mr. Chan's apartment in Taikoo Shing with all our equipment. Upon entering,we saw a towering vinyl record shelf, with all the records neatly covered in transparent protective sleeves and meticulously arranged. It was very tidy.

"Mr. Chan, these records are kept so well, are you sure you want to part with them. " I asked him, putting on my gloves to inspect the records.
Mr. Chan chuckled and replied,"A person only has two ears, and there's only so much time. I've been into audio for over thirty years. Back then,if I liked a record,I'd buy the first pressing, then the Japanese pressing, and even the German version. For example,I have three or four versions of Leslie's 'Summer Romance' and Danny's 'What Life Asks For'. But I realized I always listen to the same one,and the others just sit there gathering dust. Rather than taking up space,it's better to let you guys at '9Box Music' find them a new owner who appreciates them. And I can use the money to upgrade my McIntosh amplifier!"
After hearing Mr. Chan's words,we strongly resonated with his sentiment. Vinyl records are made to be listened to; keeping them locked in a cabinet is truly meaningless. Most of the records Mr. Chan sold to us this time were classic albums from the golden age of Hong Kong pop music in the 80s and 90s. Because he cherished his records and regularly cleaned them with a record cleaning machine, their condition was exceptionally high, with many still having their lyric sheets and posters intact. We carefully evaluated each record on the spot and ultimately offered a excellent price that Mr. Chan was very satisfied with, leading to a quick deal!

【Vinyl Recycling FAQ - We're here to help】
After reading Mr. Chan's case,if you also have old vinyl records you'd like to sell, here are some of our most frequently asked questions:
Q1: How do we determine the recycling price of vinyl records. A: We mainly consider three factors: the rarity of the artist/album (e.g.,Leslie Cheung,Teresa Teng,Beyond usually fetch higher prices),the pressing (first pressing,Japanese pressing,or later reissues),and most importantly, the condition (deep scratches on the disc, mold or damaged edges on the sleeve). If it's a good item,we never undervalue it!
Q2: If the disc has minor scratches,or the sleeve is slightly damaged,do you still buy them. A: Yes! As long as there's no severe warping or scratches that cause skipping,we will evaluate and recycle records with normal signs of wear or minor sleeve damage based on the actual condition. You can send us a photo via WhatsApp for an initial quote.
Q3: I have hundreds of records, and they're very heavy. Do I need to bring them to you myself. A: Absolutely not! Like Mr. Chan's case,as long as the quantity meets a certain number (usually dozens or more),we provide free on-site evaluation and pickup services throughout Hong Kong. You just sit at home, and our specialists will bring cash or use FPS for immediate payment, pack up the records, and take them away,hassle-free.
