The Beginning: An Inquiry from Mong Kok
Last Wednesday afternoon,our WhatsApp chimed with a few photos of CDs. The photos showed several of Leslie Cheung's classic albums: "Leslie" (Monica),"For Your Heart Only," "Stand Up," and "All for You Summer Selection." As a veteran in the second-hand audio-visual field,I immediately recognized that these were not ordinary reissues,but early Japanese pressings with high collection value.
We quickly contacted the seller and arranged to meet the next day at a cafe in Mong Kok to view the items.
Seller Profile and Reason for Selling
Seller Information: Uncle Zhao,62,retired secondary school teacher,avid Hong Kong pop music fan. Reason for Selling: Uncle Zhao is a very meticulous person. He told me: "These CDs have been with me for nearly forty years. I used to keep them in a dehumidifying cabinet. Recently,due to my age and my children starting families,my wife and I moved into a smaller retirement unit (apartment). Our old Hi-Fi system broke a few years ago and I never got it repaired. Now I mostly listen to music on my phone via Bluetooth. These valuable,out-of-print CDs have been sitting with me for a long time. I figured I might as well hand them over to 'us' to help them find a new owner who truly appreciates them and has the equipment to play them. This is the best way to show respect for 'Gor Gor's' music."
