- On August 6, 1986, the Hong Kong regional final of the 2nd "ABU Asia-Pacific Pop Song Contest" was held. Anthony Lun and Raidas won the championship and runner-up respectively. Although Prudence Liew's "Melancholy Night" ranked fourth, it received praise from one of the judges, James Wong.
- In 1986, the movie "Tough Gals' Third Episode: Midnight Lady," which depicted the lives of courtesans, caused a sensation. At that time, the production team had already invited a famous singer to perform the theme song, but producer Johnny Mak felt it didn't quite fit the movie. Director David Lai found "Dear J" sung by Korean singer Lee Sun-hee and asked Prudence Liew, who was the producer, to try singing it. She wrote the Cantonese lyrics based on her understanding of the film, and thus we heard the shocking "Midnight Love." Prudence Liew's performance was passionate yet tender, and the final line "I Fall in Love" was delivered to perfection. Although she was only twenty-two at the time, she perfectly captured the hardships and the pain of being bullied that courtesans faced.
- As the movie became a hit, the theme song "Midnight Love" and its singer Prudence Liew quickly gained widespread attention. On December 23, 1986, "Prudence Liew (The Last Night)," an album produced by Michael Chan, was hot off the press. This album brought together top musicians from Hong Kong and Taiwan who poured their hearts into creating it.
- Ten songs with different styles represent ten women in different situations. Prudence Liew used this concept throughout the entire album: the first hit song "The Last Night" talks about a one-night stand that doesn't seek eternity; "Pretend" sings about the迷思 of being a third party; "Subtropical Youth" describes a girl's love at first sight with a boy in the subtropics; "Neon Bird" portrays the lost and lonely state of a girl who wastes her time; and Prudence Liew's own creation, "Melancholy Night," depicts the hardships of courtesans...
- "The Last Night" is the most striking work on the album. The original song is "You're A Woman" by the German trio Bad Boys Blue. Albert Leung's lyrics, through the depiction and desire for lust, express a bitter, doomed relationship between a man and a woman. Albert Leung once wrote "The Last Dance" for Jenny Tseng in 1984. "The Last Night" continues the theme of "The Last Dance" but has subtle differences in meaning, presenting a relationship and mindset different from "The Last Dance." The erotic description in "The Last Night," literally speaking, is undoubtedly more subtle than Albert Leung's other similar works, but it is actually bolder. Its boldness lies in its implicit portrayal and declaration of a relationship model among people in the floating world that deviates from mainstream societal values. It seemingly describes lust but implicitly describes the relationship between men and women. "The Last Night" made the then-newcomer Prudence Liew stand out in the music scene and compete with other mainstream singers.
- "Morning" and "Separate" are fresh works created by Lam Man Yee and Richard Lam respectively. "Morning" sings about the reluctance to let go of passing time, showcasing Prudence Liew's tender side, while the jazz-style "Separate" expresses the sentiments of urban women.
- The album cover features Prudence Liew with a bewildered baby face, her hand resting on the corner of her eye, her eyes smiling, and wearing unzipped oversized jeans. This impactful cover caused a huge stir.
- In the 1980s, when cover love songs were rampant, "Prudence Liew (The Last Night)" was a rare and bold attempt. This album sold 280,000 copies in three months. Her debut self-titled album made Prudence Liew an overnight sensation. With this album, Prudence Liew won the "Most Promising New Artist Gold Award" at the 10th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards, and Michael Chan also won the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs and Top Ten Gold Songs Awards for
