On August 3,1985,TVB held the second quarterly awards ceremony for "Jade Solid Gold." Leslie Cheung's "Wild Wind," "I Do," and "Maiden's Heart" all won awards. At that time,Leslie Cheung was holding the second "Summer Ballantine's Concert" at the Hong Kong Coliseum. TVB specially arranged for Tang Lai-ying to present the awards at the concert and broadcast it live. After Leslie Cheung performed three award-winning songs,he also performed Andy Chui's unselected song "Love Is Not a Game." Andy Chui, who was hosting the "Jade Solid Gold" awards, was moved and spoke: "I really want to say a few words here, because for a singer, winning or not winning an award doesn't really matter. It doesn't matter if my song 'Love Is Not a Game' didn't win,but I really hope that as singers, whether it's someone else's song or our own, they are all equally appreciated. Just now I saw Leslie Cheung's concert, and I sincerely congratulate Leslie Cheung for winning three of the top ten golden songs for the second quarter, but a moment of glory may not be eternal..." Before he could finish speaking,he was suddenly interrupted by his co-host,Lo Man-yee.

Andy Chui's last sentence,"A moment of glory may not be eternal," caused an uproar and was interpreted as a veiled jab at Leslie Cheung. Under the media's over-interpretation,the "slip of the tongue" incident continued to escalate, almost leading to Andy Chui's downfall. He was subsequently removed as the host of "Jade Solid Gold."

In 1980,Andy Chui released his debut solo album "How to Tell You" and co-hosted the music program "Beautiful Notes." His composition "Shadow" was included in the 1981 album "Youth Trio," and with its beautiful melody and elegant mood,it won the 4th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award. Two years later,Andy Chui's "Why Did We Ever Meet" was selected for the 6th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs, making him a rising star in the music scene alongside Leslie Cheung and Danny Chan.

In 1986,Andy Chui released his eighth album,"Absolute Emptiness," co-produced by Leung Siu-keung and Andy Chui. This marked Andy Chui's first time as a producer.

The title track,"Absolute Emptiness," was adapted from the Japanese song "Only You" composed by Mizutani Kohsei, originally sung by Matsumura Yuuki. This obscure Japanese song was transformed under Andy Chui's rendition, becoming a classic widely known and bringing his singing career to another peak. Lyricist Lam Chun-keung cleverly used a lounge setting, where "the song you used to love to hum" plays,to evoke the regret of things changing and people drifting apart.

"Sudden Burst of Light," composed by Lee Nga-sang and with lyrics by Lo Kwok-chan,included the line "But a moment of glory / May not be eternal," which echoed Andy Chui's inner feelings and simultaneously encouraged him to overcome his troubles as soon as possible.

"End of Love" and "What is the Price of Love" are two songs composed by Andy Chui. "What is the Price of Love" was an entry in the "International Youth Year Hong Kong Pop Song Creation Invitational," originally titled "Song of Love," and was included in the compilation album "Peace Shuttle Hong Kong Pop Song Creation Invitational."

Andy Chui covered "Perhaps" from Ho Ka-king's eponymous 1984 album. This hidden gem, composed by Chris Babida and with lyrics by Lam Chun-keung,was brought back to life and rediscovered by music fans through Andy Chui's interpretation.

The "slip of the tongue" incident caused Andy Chui a lot of trouble but did not defeat him. Andy Chui proved himself with his strength; although he did not achieve superstar status,he brought countless classic songs to music fans, becoming an indispensable representative figure in the Hong Kong music scene of the 1980s.

From March 12 to 16,1986,Andy Chui held his "Andy Chui '86 Concert" at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium in Wan Chai,Hong Kong.
