• In 1989,Jacky Cheung returned to the forefront of the music scene with two albums,"To My Dearest" and "Only Wish to Love One Person All My Life." PolyGram also regarded him as their top artist,and Jacky Cheung was ready to unleash his talent.
• In 1990,Jacky Cheung released his eighth Cantonese album,"Dream in Your Heart," with "Li Xiang Lan," an adaptation of Koji Tamaki's work,becoming a classic. In 1991,Jacky Cheung released two albums,"Can't Help But Love" and "An Unchanging Heart," within a year. The main hit song "Loving You More Each Day," with lyrics by Richard Lam,became an instant champion on all three major radio stations upon its release and swept the annual awards ceremonies. Jacky Cheung won the "Ultimate Male Singer Gold Award" at the (Ultimate Song Chart Awards). "Loving You More Each Day" solidified Jacky Cheung's position as a top-tier artist.

His husky yet tender voice perfectly conveyed the essence of the original song. "Loving You Deeper" was adapted from "May Flowers Remain Forever" from Jackie Chan's first Mandarin album,"First Time." • "Secretly Loving You" was originally "Sentimental Christmas" by Japanese singer-songwriter Shogo Hamada. This song was the theme song for the movie "The Days of Being Dumb," starring Jacky Cheung and Tony Leung. "Secretly Loving You" not only was selected as one of the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs but also won the "IFPI International Song Award."
• "Red Leaves Dancing on Autumn Mountains" and "Love Sickness in Wind and Rain" were the theme and insert songs for the TVB martial arts drama "The Defiant One." "Love Sickness in Wind and Rain" was a duet by Jacky Cheung and Shirley Yuen. This romantic and beautiful duet was catchy and became immensely popular upon its release,winning the "Most Popular Karaoke Song Award" at the 15th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards and the "Most Popular Male and Female Duet Award" at the 1992 Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards.
• "Breaking Up in the Rain," adapted from Keiji Katayama's work,originally performed by Japanese singer Watari Maeda,was the album's main hit. "Breaking Up in the Rain" possessed all the typical elements of a mainstream love song,and lyricist Chan Siu-kei skillfully used these elements to create fresh and innovative lyrics.
• On January 17,1993,the 1992 Jade Solid Gold Best Ten Music Awards Presentation was held at the Hong Kong Coliseum. "Breaking Up in the Rain" won the Golden Song Gold Award. TVB specially invited Winnie Yu,General Manager of Commercial Radio,to present the award to Jacky Cheung. She passionately declared,"He is not only well-deserved but will also become the undeniable successor to the title of 'God of Songs' in the 1990s." "Breaking Up in the Rain" witnessed the birth of a new generation's "God of Songs," and from then on,Jacky Cheung inherited the title of "God of Songs" from Sam Hui.
