How much are your CDs worth. Three steps to a preliminary assessment
Many people have a stack of old CDs at home but don't know whether to sell them as second-hand or if they genuinely have collector's value. Here are a few ways you can check yourself:
Step one: Check the text on the disc's inner ring. Open the CD case and look at the engraving on the inner ring of the disc. If it says "MANUFACTURED BY DENON" or "MADE IN JAPAN," congratulations! Japanese pressings (especially Denon pressings) offer excellent sound quality and are highly sought after by collectors. Many early Hong Kong CDs were sent to Japan for pressing, and these versions differ significantly in value from later local pressings.
Step two: Check the catalog number and version. The same album may have been released in several versions. First editions (usually with smaller catalog numbers and more elaborate packaging) have the highest value. For example, early versions of PolyGram CDs have distinct catalog number formats compared to later reissues.
Step three: Check if all accessories are complete. The lyric booklet, obi strip, and response card – CDs with all these accessories can fetch several times more than "disc-only" copies. Obi strips are paper bands unique to Japanese CDs,and many people discard them once opened, making well-preserved ones particularly valuable.
Of course, the most accurate valuation still comes from professional appraisal. Send us a few photos via WhatsApp,and we'll assess them for free.

Which CDs have the most collector's value.
Based on our buyback experience, the following types of CDs consistently hold value in the second-hand market:
Japanese Denon Pressings: In the 80s and early 90s,many Hong Kong record companies sent their CDs to Japan's DENON factory for pressing. The sound quality of these pressings is notably superior to later local pressings. These CDs have been out of production for many years and are limited in quantity, with their market value steadily increasing.
First Edition Limited Packaging: Limited first editions with special cover designs, deluxe cardboard boxes, and extra bonus tracks are highly sought after by collectors, who are willing to pay higher prices.
Discontinued Classic Albums: Some early albums by certain artists were never released digitally, making physical CDs the only way to hear the original recordings, naturally creating high demand.
Movie Soundtracks and Compilations: Certain movie soundtrack CDs from the 80s and 90s also have collector's value, especially discontinued versions.

CD buyback FAQ
Which CDs are more valuable.
First edition CDs (especially Japanese and Denon pressings),limited editions, discontinued albums, and collector's editions with special packaging usually have higher collection value. For Cantonese songs, early CDs by artists like Leslie Cheung,Danny Chan, and Beyond are consistently sought after by collectors.
Can CDs with scratches still be bought back.
Yes,they can be bought back. Minor scratches generally do not affect buyback, and we will adjust the quote based on the actual condition of the disc. However,if the CD cannot be played normally, its buyback value will be lower accordingly.
Do you also accept old Japanese and English CDs.
We primarily focus on Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin pop) CD Buyback, but we are also happy to buy back Japanese/Korean and classic Western albums if they have significant collector's value. We recommend sending photos via WhatsApp for an assessment first.
Does a damaged CD case or loose lyric booklet affect buyback.
It usually doesn't have a major impact. CD cases are consumables and can be replaced. A lyric booklet with minor signs of wear typically won't significantly affect value, but if the lyric booklet is completely missing, the quote will be adjusted – after all,for collectors, complete accessories are always a bonus.
