  • On August 6, 1986, the Hong Kong finals of the second "ABU Asia-Pacific Pop Song Composition Competition" were held. Lun Wing-leung and the Raidas duo won first and second place respectively. Liu Mei-kwan's composition "Melancholy Night" ranked second.
  • Fourth, it received praise from one of the judges, Wong Jim.
  • In 1986, the film *Midnight Beauty III*, depicting the lives of women in the sex industry, caused a social sensation. The production team had already hired a famous singer to perform the theme song, but producer Michael Mak felt it didn't quite fit the film. Director David Lai invited Korean singer Lee Sun-hee to sing "Dear J," and producer Prudence Liew auditioned for the song. Based on her understanding of the film, she wrote the Cantonese lyrics, resulting in the shocking song "Midnight Love." Liew's singing was tender yet passionate, with the final line, "I Fall in Love," delivered with unparalleled intensity. At only twenty-two years old, she portrayed the bitterness and vulnerability of women in the sex industry with unparalleled depth.
  • With the film's popularity, the theme song "Midnight Love" and its singer, Prudence Liew, quickly gained widespread attention. On December 23, 1986, the album "Prudence Liew (The Last Night)," produced by Chan Wing-leung, was released to great acclaim. This album brought together top musicians from Hong Kong and Taiwan to create a masterpiece.
  • Ten songs, each with a distinct style, represent ten women in different circumstances. Liu Meijun uses this concept to connect the entire album: the first single, "The Last Night," speaks of a one-night stand that doesn't seek forever; "Pretend" sings of the anxieties surrounding third parties; "Subtropical Boy" depicts a girl's experience of falling in love at first sight with a boy in the subtropics; "Neon Bird" portrays the bewildered and lonely state of mind of a girl wasting her time; and Liu Meijun's "Melancholy Night" depicts the bitterness of women in the entertainment industry…
  • "The Last Night" is the most eye-catching track on the album. The original song is "You're A Woman" by the German trio Bad Boys Blue. Lam Chun-keung's lyrics, through descriptions and yearnings of desire, express a bittersweet relationship destined to be unfulfilled. Lam Chun-keung had previously written "The Last Dance" for Jenny Tseng in 1984, and "The Last Night" continues the theme of "The Last Dance," but with subtle differences in meaning, presenting a relationship and mindset distinct from "The Last Dance." While the erotic descriptions in "The Last Night" are ostensibly more subtle than Lam Chun-keung's other similar works, they are actually bolder. They boldly depict and proclaim a relationship model between men and women that differs from the mainstream societal values, superficially describing desire while subtly exploring the nature of male-female relationships. "The Last Night" made the then-newcomer, Prudence Liew, stand out in the music scene and compete with other mainstream singers.
  • "Early Morning" and "Separation" are refreshing works created by Lin Minyi and Lin Mincong respectively. "Early Morning" sings of the reluctance to let go of the passing years and shows Liu Meijun's tender side, while the jazz-style "Separation" expresses the feelings of urban women.
  • The cover features Liu Meijun with a bewildered, baby-faced expression, her hand covering her eyes, her eyes smiling, and wearing oversized jeans with the zipper undone. This striking cover caused a huge uproar.
  • In the 1980s, when cover versions of love songs were rampant, the album *Liu Meijun (The Last Night)* was a unique and bold attempt, selling 280,000 copies within three months. This self-titled debut album made Liu Meijun an instant sensation, earning her the "Most Promising Newcomer Award (Gold)" at the 10th Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Awards. Chen Yongliang, on the other hand, simultaneously won both the Top Ten Chinese Gold Songs Award and the Top Ten Jade Solid Gold Songs Award.
