"Laughing at the Changing Wind and Clouds" White Label Promo Record: A Precious Mark of a Golden Era in Hong Kong Music

The 1990 TVB classic drama "The Breaking Point" not only became a television masterpiece, but its theme song,"Laughing at the Changing Wind and Clouds," also stands as a significant duet in the history of Hong Kong pop music. This Cantonese song, performed by the Queen of Canto-pop Anita Mui and the then-rising star Andy Hui,deeply expressed the characters' complex emotions when facing the ups and downs of fate.

This particular "Laughing at the Changing Wind and Clouds" white label promo record holds a very special place among collectors of second-hand vinyl. "White label" records are typically non-commercial items specially pressed and distributed in small quantities to radio DJs and music critics by record companies for promotional broadcasts before the official mass production and release of the physical album. As these are from the first pressing, their audio tracks are closest to the master tape, and the sound quality is often richer and purer than later commercial versions. This is why seasoned audiophiles eagerly seek out Hong Kong pop music promotional vinyl records.

Lyrics by: Poon Wai Yuen Music by: Anthony Lun

(Male) Who can leap over invisible boundaries. Rules and laws have filled the world for thousands of years.
Who can give me endless advice. Change my path,my life's ambition.

(Female) Never regretted,I've rewritten reality.
Don't say destiny is fixed,I'll bravely overcome the present. Fate owes me nothing.

(Chorus) If you are by my side along the way, even heaven's tricks are shallow.
If you meet me with sincerity along the way, even if the storm is unavoidable,
(Female) I'll still smile, standing tall through the long road, watching the changing wind and clouds.
