For seasoned audiophiles and vinyl collectors, the value of 80s Cantonese pop vinyl has consistently remained high, with Sandy Lam's early classic works being particularly sought after in the market. This album,"Passion / Love's Ruin," is not just a pop music record; it encapsulates the golden age of Hong Kong's pop music scene.
"Passion," as the Cantonese adaptation of "Take My Breath Away," the theme song from the movie "Top Gun," has long become an essential track for testing high-end audio systems, thanks to its psychedelic arrangements and Sandy Lam's piercing and emotive vocal performance. "White label records" (i.e.,promotional non-commercial copies for radio stations),due to their very early pressing time, have minimal groove wear and retain the rich dynamics and details closest to the master tape. This ultimate analog sound is irreplaceable by later remastered CDs or digital audio sources. This is also why major second-hand vinyl record markets are eager to acquire these rare white label records.
Comparison of Value Differences Between Regular and White Label (Promotional) Vinyl Records
To help collectors better understand the value of their records, please refer to the comparison table below. This also serves as an important reference for our professional appraisal of second-hand vinyl records:
| Assessment Item | Regular Release Vinyl Record (Retail Version) | White Label / Promotional Vinyl Record (White Label Promo) |
| Purpose of Release & Target Audience | Publicly sold to the mass market, supplied to major record stores. | Exclusively for radio DJs and media for auditioning and chart promotion, marked "Not for Sale" or with blank labels. |
| Pressing Sequence & Sound Quality | Mass-produced pressings, later pressings may have more wear on the metal master, potentially slightly reducing high-frequency details. | Considered the first of the first pressings, with the master in optimal condition, offering the widest soundstage and most powerful dynamics. |
| Circulation Volume | Large circulation, ranging from tens of thousands to hundreds of thousands of copies depending on sales at the time. | Extremely rare, usually only dozens to a few hundred copies, and most were lost during circulation at radio stations. |
| Accessories & Packaging Differences | Comes with complete exquisite covers, lyric sheets, posters, and other standard commercial accessories. | Sleeves are mostly simple generic company sleeves or punched/cut-corner covers, some with handwritten press releases from the record company. |
| Collection Value & buyback Market | Prices are relatively transparent and stable, depending on the artist's popularity and the record's condition. | Extremely high. Rare white label Hong Kong pop music records command significant premium in the high-cash buyback market due to their rarity and ultimate sound quality. |

Sandy Lam - Passion / Love's Ruin Lyrics:
The waves in my mind surge ceaselessly, soaring
The passion in my heart can no longer be contained
Once I liked solitude, wanting love but afraid to give it
Your wild eyes ignited the flames of love
Take my breath away
Take my breath away
A fiery passion ceaselessly ignited by you
Where a pair of lovers willingly succumb to the flames of love
Waiting for you in the darkness to be with me again
Fiery lips romantically make me uninhibited
My love take my breath away
My skin tenses up
Just because you sway
An unyielding heart
Regardless of whether there's a future
Still in forbidden territory
Taking my chances
Take my breath away
Take my breath away
A fiery passion ceaselessly ignited by you
Today it's a one-way street,even if I end up burned alive
Waiting for you in the darkness to personally leave your mark
Fiery lips romantically make me uninhibited
My love take my breath away
My love take my breath away
