[9Box Music Vinyl Records Recycling Log] Reluctantly parting with these to free up space at home, I unexpectedly unearthed a precious Leslie Cheung white vinyl and a promotional edition of Andy Lau!

A box of cardboard, thirty years of dust, and two unexpected treasures – this was the real scene at a recycling site in Kwun Tong last week. Having been in the vinyl recycling business for so many years, every time I open an old record box from a customer, it's like unwrapping an unknown gift. Today, I want to share this case with everyone because the surprises hidden inside even exceeded my own expectations.

Seller Profile and Original Intention to Sell

  • Seller Name: Mr. Wong (55 years old, a seasoned audio and music enthusiast)
  • Location: Kwun Tong District
  • Reason for Selling: Mr. Wong is a nostalgic person, and his home houses a collection of hundreds of 80s and 90s Cantonese pop vinyl records. Recently, his wife decided to redecorate the living room with modern minimalist furniture. Facing mountains of vinyl records that occupied more than half of the storage cabinet and hadn't been listened to in a long time, his wife issued a "clearance order." Although Mr. Wong was reluctant, he understood that instead of letting these precious records sit idle and moldy in the cabinet, it would be better to entrust them to someone who would appreciate them, while also freeing up valuable space in the new living room. Thus, through a friend's introduction, he found us, "9Box Music."

On-Site Appraisal: Classics Reawakened from Cardboard Boxes

That afternoon, I arrived at Mr. Wong's home with professional cleaning and appraisal tools. Three large cardboard boxes were placed in the center of the living room. Upon opening them, the entire room was filled with the scent of that era. Mr. Wong had taken relatively good care of them; although some album covers showed signs of age along the edges, most records were protected by sleeves.

As I flipped through them one by one, several highly collectible records immediately caught my eye.

The first one that caught my attention was Leslie Cheung's classic album. "Gor Gor's" records have always been highly sought after in the current secondary market. Mr. Wong's copy of "Leslie" (featuring the iconic song "Monica") had vibrant cover colors, and its underwater photography visual effect still looks avant-garde today.

Then, an even bigger surprise appeared – Leslie Cheung's "For Your Heart Only" white vinyl edition! When this album was released, the white vinyl version was relatively scarce, and many collectors have been searching for it. Mr. Wong's white vinyl was in excellent condition, with a pristine white disc surface and almost no visible scratches, making it an absolute hot commodity in the secondary market.

Just when I thought I had seen enough surprises, an Andy Lau album, "Can't Help It," caught my attention. Flipping it over for a closer look, the bottom left corner clearly read "PROMOTIONAL COPY NOT FOR SALE"! This version was originally distributed only to radio DJs or media for promotional purposes and was never publicly sold. The sound quality was usually top-tier first pressings. Mr. Wong smiled and said that an old friend who worked at a radio station gave it to him back then, and he had cherished it ever since.

In addition to these superstar kings, the boxes also contained classic live albums and studio releases by legendary singers like Roman Tam, each bearing witness to the glory of the Hong Kong music scene.

Product Recycling Assessment Checklist

After nearly two hours of careful inspection (including cover wear, disc scratches, warping, and mildew), I provided Mr. Wong with a detailed valuation list for these key records.
